Jessica Lyons, Consultant

Jessica's unique perspective is informed by her master's level training in systems theory, the concept that all systems, human and otherwise, are greater than the sum of their parts. When parts of a system work more effectively together, whether as part of a family system, a sports team or a management group, the power that emerges is immeasurable.

At Transpective Jessica is responsible for helping clients gain new insights on behalf of organizational performance improvement. When assumptions are challenged clients begin to move beyond "business as usual," uncovering new solutions, hidden strengths and blind spots.

As a Team Leader at a mental health center, Jessica put systems thinking into practice, increasing productivity by 15% during her first year and helping to establish a record surplus in her department. This was achieved by creating an atmosphere of collaboration, shared expertise, group problem solving and ongoing learning. Staff reported improved morale and the company's visibility in the surrounding community became more widespread and positive.

During her education at Brown University, Jessica concentrated in Sociology with an emphasis on economics and business. Her curiosity about how people work together and co-create meaning in experience is one of her most crucial assets. Her nature is collaborative and culturally informed while offering clients new perspective and insight. Areas of interest include gender and communication, family-work life balance, stress management and the correlation between staff morale and productivity.

In addition to her work in psychotherapy and consulting, Jessica has conducted qualitative social research as a data analyst. She co-authored the article "A Dollar Short: Financial Challenges of Working-Poor Rural Families" published June 2003 in Family Focus. Jessica serves on the Board of Directors at NewOutlook Teen Center in Exeter, NH, which provides educational, adventure-based and recreational programming to local youth.

Jessica conducts regular seminars on topics related to family systems and interpersonal effectiveness. She is an engaging speaker and facilitator effectively utilizing humor to create group process. She has presented at numerous conferences and is frequently asked to speak in the community.

Jessica previously worked in the field of psychotherapy. Her practice focused on relationships and group dynamics, embracing a "strengths based, solution-focused approach". In her management capacity she was responsible for discovering ways to integrate regulatory demands, quality of service, productivity, fiscal responsibility and staff morale. Jessica is an enthusiast of all things outdoors; she loves hiking, camping, biking and kayaking. Jessica has a passionate appreciation for jazz music, particularly the way distinct instruments and chords symbiotically blend together.
